learning with computersThe Center for Knowledge Communication develops advanced technology to improve teaching and learning. Current focus is on the psychology of human learning, strategies for effective teaching, and the dynamics of human-machine interactions. Researchers build computer systems that encode a deep understanding of the domain, the tutoring process, and the presumed knowledge of each student. The systems tailor their responses to individual needs and capabilities. These systems are evaluated with typically achieving as well as students with disabilities. Research is focused on social learning, e.g., collaboration through the World Wide Web and students working with virtual companions.
