Professional Interests
My primary research goal is to develop educational technologies that engage learners and increase learning. Our intelligent computer-based tutors model domain knowledge, students’ knowledge and tutoring strategies in a large variety of domains (e.g., mathematics, science, engineering, history, art) and for a variety of learners (grade school, high school, undergraduate, medical school and industrial trainees). This research has contributed new principles and techniques for the design of educational software and has empirically validated theories of learning. Work in multimedia has included production of 3-D computer animations, digital video editing and integrated animation, sound and video.
