The Center for Educational Software Development is a campus service organization dedicated to the design, development and deployment of instructional technology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. CESD builds collaborations with UMass faculty and external institutions and community groups, and uses tools and expertise developed in more than a decade of technology research to serve University departments as well as the state's K-12 schools.
1. Help meet the University's critical need for effective undergraduate instructional materials by developing advanced, computer-based instructional systems.
2. Educate the faculty and administration in the use of advanced instructional technology. 3. Develop and assess educational technology appropriate for K-12, outreach, and life-long learning.
CESD is responsible for the development and support of the OWL Online Homework System, used by thousands of students at UMass and many more through its license to Cengage Learning, Inc.
